Start Your Year Right 5 Steps to Take Today!

Happy New Year!

CrisMarie here! I bet you have some New Year’s Resolutions. Yay for you! I do too. It’s a great time to get clear on what you really want and go for it! It could be to:

  • Eat right and get in shape

  • Start a budget and save money

  • Start your own business

  • Write your book or start your blog

  • Find the right person to start a relationship

The problem is for most of us, after two or three weeks (if you make it that long), you give up on your resolutions and fall back into the status quo, your comfort zone. This doesn’t have to happen to you!

You’ve made the commitment, the resolution, which is the first crucial step!

Now, you need to re-commit every day. Yep, every day. It’s so easy to get stuck, pulled back to what you know, the day-to-day. Don’t!

I’m going to give you five things you can do TODAY to help you get unstuck and back on track with your goals. (If you want more help to make sure you accomplish your goals, sign up for Get Unstuck, our proven step-by-step program starting next Tuesday!)

1. Take a dance break.

Change your energy right this very moment. Put your favorite dance song on loud and dance like there’s no tomorrow. Notice your energy, your outlook, and what you’re willing to do after you dance.

2. Express your feelings.

If you are stuck, depressed, sad, or angry – let yourself express that energy out loud.

  • Lay down, put on a sad song and let yourself just cry.

  • Pound pillows or have a tantrum.

  • Color how you feel on paper with both hands.

Don’t try to get rid of your emotions, just give your emotional energy your attention and the space to move through you. Notice what clarity comes after you express yourself.

3. Change your thoughts.

Thoughts drive your feelings, which in turn drives your behavior.

What are the negative thoughts you’re telling yourself about your goal? Shift them to a more neutral thought. Not even a positive thought. Just more neutral.

For example:

Negative Thought Neutral Thought

No one will ever want to work with me. Some people have worked with me.

I’ll never get in shape. I can take a walk today.

I’ll never get out of debt. I paid off my student loan.

Remind yourself of the neutral thought. Notice how your energy shifts.

4. Be kind to yourself.

Do one kind thing that makes you feel good.

  • Wear your favorite outfit.

  • Light candles in the house.

  • Buy yourself flowers.

  • Take a bath.

Notice how you feel after this kindness.

5. Take one tiny, itsy-bitsy, tiny, baby step.

Yes, take action in the direction of your goal, but make it the easiest, smallest, simplest baby step.

  • If you’re looking to get in shape, take a 5-minute walk.

  • If you’re saving money, put a dollar in your piggy bank.

  • If you want to write your book, write for 5 minutes on anything.

You get the idea – small, simple, easy! Notice how you feel after.

Just Fine

I have an issue. I’m trying to find some answers in a storybook.

I am like a dancer moving gracefully.

But then it feels like I’m stuck.

There’s a door I cannot seem open up.

I found luck. I found the key. I found some reasons why

When I’m closest to my dreams I don’t want to try.

I found a hammer and some nails.

So it’s time to play - step into the wild.

There is a part of me that knows that I‘ll be just fine.

There is a part of me that knows it’s all in my mind.

There is a part of me that knows I’ll that be just fine, just fine.

I have this part of me that always tries to keep me safe.

Another part of that seems to sign me up for every race.

And both sides they fight. Yeah, they try to show who’s best.

So now I meditate. I’m always stuck cleaning the mess.

I found the broom. The time to sweep. I found some the reasons why

I throw myself down on the ground when every cell says fly.

From way down here the sky is clear. The ground supports my weight.

Step into the wild.

There is a part of me that knows that I‘ll be just fine.

There is a part of me that knows it’s all in my mind.

There is a part of me that knows that I’ll be just fine, just fine.
